Gift Aid Declaration
The Gift Aid Scheme for UK
Taxpayers
In the March 2000 budget the
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer said that he wanted to make it easier for people
to give to charities more effectively.
He therefore introduced measures to enhance the Gift Aid Scheme, (which in
the past was only for single donations of over £250), so that it could cover
donations of any value made by a UK taxpayer, whether single donations or
regular contributions.
As a result
the Covenant Scheme will no longer be needed.
Existing covenants can continue to
completion but there will be no new Covenants.
The Gift Aid Scheme will take their
place.
The main change to the Gift
Aid Scheme is to remove the necessity for witnessed signatures on legal
documents before a donation is made.
All that is required is that you complete a simple Gift
Aid Declaration form, (see below) you
can even do it after making a donation, giving the relevant details and
permission for the Church to reclaim the tax you have paid on the donation you
give. The tax can have been paid
either as income tax or capital gains tax.
If are a regular contributor
using Weekly Free Will Offering Envelopes, and you are a taxpayer, then you can
complete a Declaration and the Church will be able to recover the tax you paid
on your contributions.
We also have
envelopes at the Church door with a declaration printed on them.
You can use these to make a quick one
off donation, or put a donation in the open plate during a service.
The Church will then be able to recover
the tax you have paid on your donation.
You don't even need to complete a whole form.
