REGEN 2025 (and Other Fundraising)

ReGen 2025 Total so far £36,000

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

for 3 years up to 2025, Kirk of Calder has embarked on a fundraising campaign to raise £60,000 for property
and maintenance work at the Church, Glenalmond Hall, and the Manse.

This will also help to support the church mission and its ability to deliver pastoral services in the local community and beyond,
for example with the future installation of a new sound and audio system to enhance the online streaming of Church services and events.

ReGen 2025 will also focus on extending friendship and fellowship both within the Church and local area in this post Covid era.
It will aim to create the infrastructure to attract a new minister when permitted to do so.

Kirk of Calder parishioners raise over £73,000 in two years to build a children's home in Tanzania

The church, in Mid Calder, launched the Oldeani Project in September 2014 and are now well on the way to reaching their goal of £85,000.

 BY  DEBBIE HALL 11:00, UPDATED14:26, 30 DEC 2016

Fundraising efforts of Kirk of Calder. The congregation of a church in a small West Lothian village have raised a phenomenal £73,000 in just two years to build a children’s home in Tanzania.  The Kirk of Calder parishioners have so far raised £73,892 towards their goal of £85,000.

The church, in Mid Calder, launched the Oldeani Project in September 2014.  Its aim was to link up with the Vine Trust’s voluntary work in Tanzania, and in particular to fund the building of a children’s home in the district of Oldeani, near to Mount Kilimanjaro.  The estimated cost of building the home is around £85,000.

Neighbouring churches of Livingston Old Church, West Kirk of Calder, Polbeth Harwood Parish Church, Strathbrock Parish Church Uphall, Harthill St Andrew’s Parish Church, Blackridge Parish Church, Brucefield Church, Kirknewton and East Calder Parish Church of Scotland, Linlithgow St. Michael’s Parish Church Guild, Presbytery of West Lothian Church and Society Committee, Bathgate High Church and Chalmers Church in Larkhall Lanarkshire , which recently Twinned with the Kirk of Calder, have all rallied with their support helping to boost the fund.

The local community have also got behind the project and numerous fundraising events have been held. These included several benefit concerts by local choir The Choral Highlights, the fantastic West Calder Brass Band, Mid Calder Primary School Choir and A George Formby Tribute Concert by the Scottish Formby Group from Perth.  Local singing teacher and vocal coach Fred O’Neil together with his highly talented students and friends recently held two benefit concerts.

And Last year Strathbrock Church hosted a Bluegrass Concert at their church hall’s in Uphall featuring the Mair’s Family Bluegrass Gospel Band from Rutherglen supported by local bluegrass band Albakirkie.

Kirk of Calder's minister at the time of the fundraising was the Reverend John Povey; who said: “The challenge of raising such a large amount of money in such a short time for such a deserving cause has certainly united this local community. “Key fundraising events include the annual Kirk of Calder Spring Fair held in the Institute Hall Mid Calder and the Kirk’s Social Club Variety Evening at Pumpherston Golf Club

“Teachers and students from James Young High School in Livingston have held dances and dress down days and Williamston Primary School added their support with their Summer Fair.  “The 1st Mid Calder Boys’ Brigade and 3rd Mid Calder Brownie Unit have organised several events and The Boys’ Brigade 1st Uphall Company held an eight hour bag packing day at a local supermarket.

“On their own initiative children as young as 10 as well as adults have been actively involved in planning, organising and achieving personal challenges through sponsored events and in doing so raising considerable sums of money for the Children’s Home in Tanzania.”  He continued: “It would seem that the enthusiasm for our fundraising appears endless.  “Every penny counts when our goal is to raise £85,000 so we are very grateful for every copper coin that goes into our bucket of loose change each Sunday.  “Myself and the congregation at the Kirk of Calder would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has made a contribution to the Kirk of Calder Vine Trust Oldeani Project these past two years. “With continued support from the local community we are confident that we will achieve our goal by the autumn of 2017.

Last October an Easyfundraising page was set up for the Kirk of Calder to help raise funds for the Oldeani project. Using easyfundraising is a great way to boost our funds and it doesn't cost you a penny! Simply by shopping online through the easyfundraising website, working with over 2700 online retailers including Amazon, John Lewis, Tesco, Asda, Marks & Spencer, Expedia, and Jet 2 Holidays to raise money for our cause.

So far we have raised over £250.00 and have 30 members of the congregation using the site but we need more! So next time you shop online please do it via the Kirk of Calder easyfundraising page. If you download the software it all happens automatically as you surf. Watch out for the article in the next Church magazine for more info.

Our cause page is www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/kirkofcalder/ visit it to get all the information you need to join, and to download the software.

Tuesday Cafe

During 2014 the cafe raised £2,270 for the vine Trust.

The Cafe is open every Tuesday from 10 am -12 noon in the Glenalmond Hall and has a selection of scones, pancakes, and cakes for you to enjoy with your Fair Trade tea or coffee. If you like to meet with friends for a cuppa, do come along any Tuesday morning.
